A procedure intended to establish the quality, performance, or reliability of something, esp. before it is taken into widespread use.
Comment
The word test is so widely used in an ambiguous manner as to be indefinable. A test should include: an input; an objective, an environment and an expected result.


On many programmes and large projects, testing will take up a significant portion of the budget. But it will receive less management attention than an activity of this size warrants.
