Definition
A remote test is one that is invoked by a remote system, but during execution executes entirely on one platform, without the need to synchronise separate parts of the tests on more than one platform.
Comment
A remote test may pass results back to a central results repository on another platform. This enables reliable, reproducible tests to be created for systems that interact with one another where they do not need synchronisation.

On many programmes and large projects, testing will take up a significant portion of the budget. But it will receive less management attention than an activity of this size warrants.
