Conformance testing
Definition

The process of testing that an implementation conforms to the specification on which it is based.

Conformance testing is also used with regard to testing that systems meet published industry specifications (such as IEEE POSIX specifications). Testing in these cases will relate closely to the specification, but may not relate to functionality needed by the users.
